Fraxinus ornus is a small to medium-sized tree native to South-Eastern Europe. It is a pioneer species that rarely grows beyond 100 years of age. While the timber quality is generally comparable to that of the other European ash species, it is rarely used as a timber species due to low dimensions and irregularily growing stems. It's main current use is to produce firewood in coppice systems.
Like with the narrow-leaved ash, there are no definitive records of Lepidopteran caterpillars from the Mediterranean manna ash. Yet, if more widely planted across Europe, other ash herbivores are most likely expected to accept this tree as additional host.
