Pinus brutia is a tall conifer that is native to the Eastern Mediterranean. It is a light-demanding early seral species that regenerates vigorously after fire. It is fast-growing and forms open canopies that favor dense undergrowth. The wood of Pinus brutia is of medium quality, but is used for construction puroposes, as pulp wood as well as for fuelwood.
The natural range of the Turkish pine only marginally extends into Europe on the Balkan Peninsula and some Greek islands. Accordingly, herbivore records from Europe do not yet exist. However, if more extensively cultivated one expects this tree species to support other conifer feeders, notably those reported to feed on the very closely related Pinus halepensis.
