Pyrus pyraster is a medium-sized broadleaved tree occuring in the warm-temperate forest types of Europe. It is relatively slow-growing, of moderate light demand and reaches intermediate age. The wood of Pyrus pyraster is dark reddish-brown and dense. It is highly priced for uses in instruments, as veneer, and for decorative purposes as well as turned objects.
Wild pear and its cultivars support a sizeable number of herbivores, mostly not specific, but dewelling on a wide range of rosaceous woody plants and beyond.
